Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Sunday, 7:00am, Woodward Park, Fresno, California.

On a cool brisk October morning, an eager group of B-K Lighting, Teka Illumination, Star Finishes, Blue Dolphin Engineering and Etendue employees made the journey to help fight breast cancer. Each of us had our own reasons for joining the fight for a cancer free world. Unfortunately, each one of us has known someone who has struggled with the fight against of breast cancer and we made a commitment to make a difference.

”Get up you lazy bones and hit the trail” teased Laura Blinn when she called Sunday morning. “I’ll be there at 6:45 a.m. to pick you up and don’t make me wait.” That was the last thing I wanted to do if I was going to spend all morning with her. When we arrived at Woodard Park we met up with our team.

The team consisted of the following dedicated employees, friends and associates - Diana Franklin, Toni Eamigh and her daughter Cassidy, Eddie Cadena, Shaun Cuaron, Marvin and Lilly Echols, Laura and Jim Blinn, Jaime Hidbon and myself, along with Jim’s daughter, Dawn Jantzen and her three children Reese, Aaron and Matty. The team was complete.

Our conversations often touched on the subject of breast cancer and how it has impacted our lives, from those we know and those we have known who bravely battled breast cancer. We learned about the survival rates when detected early with mammograms, lifesaving treatments to improve breast cancer survival and drugs to reduce recurrence.

By getting involved in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer the team raised $1000. This money will provide 24 hour phone line support, help women to get mammograms, and fund ground breaking research to find cures. The American Cancer Society has been fighting cancer for nearly a century. Thanks to people like Our Team, we’re saving lives by helping find breast cancer’s causes and cures.
