It All Started with a Refreshing Beverage
Our History
In 1984, Doug Hagen and Skip Herbert met over an ice cold Coors Light to discuss lighting business. That can of beer, along with the new MR-16 lamp featured in the Kodak® projector, inspired the design of our Nite Star floodlight, now a factory display marking our journey. This innovation was the very first modern flood or bullet light in the industry, and stands to this day as the standard design. Since then, B-K Lighting has been a pinnacle in the lighting industry, renowned for quality and innovation.
In 2005, TEKA Illumination joined our family, known for sustainable high quality luminaires manufactured from copper, brass, and bronze. Together, we embody enduring designs and innovation, all proudly made within the same facility located in the heart of California.
When time came for our founders to step aside and let the next generation of employee take over, they wanted to do so in the realest sense possible. We proudly became 100% employee-owned in 2016 through an ESOP, or Employee Stock Ownership Plan. As an ESOP-driven team, we’re not just colleagues; we’re owners, redefining success collectively. Committed to empowering our workforce, we take pride in fostering a community that goes beyond just the traditional employer-employee relationship. 
From our inception, our zest for innovation has guided us to exciting new endeavors, and remains to this day. In 2023, we became the first lighting manufacturer to release the only floodlight in the landscape lighting space with a true laser diode source. We continuously strive to find ways to provide our customers with awe-inspiring experiences and the tools to transform their surroundings.
Our fixtures, seen in iconic installations like the Bellagio, MoMA, Mount Rushmore, and Royal Mirage Palace Resort, reflect our commitment to quality, performance, and creativity.
