GENERAL

Q: When was B-K Lighting created?
A: Over four decades ago, in 1984. Recently celebrated our 40th anniversary as a company in September of 2024.

Q: Is B-K truly American Made?
A: Yes! Our facility is located in Madera, CA, where we procure, manufacturer, assemble, and ship all of our products from. It is also where all of our office and administrative staff resides.

Q: What is TEKA Illumination
A: TEKA is part of the B-K brand and is manufactured in the same facility as B-K. It shares similarities in terms of quality and performance but offers unique designs and a wider range of fixtures made from enduring metals like copper and brass.

Q: What is Star Finishes
A: Star is our powder coating division and is located within the same facility as B-K. All B-K Lighting and TEKA Illumination fixtures are powder coated by Star Finishes. However, Star also provides their services to other local companies/customers in need of Class A, architectural grade powder coating.

Q: What is the difference between Integral and Remote?
A: Integral is a term we’re working to discontinue at B-K due to some confusion surrounding it. What were our Integral fixtures are now referred as “Line Voltage Driver” fixtures on this new website. However, Integral means the fixture includes the necessary components (usually a specific type of driver) to allow the fixture to be connected directly to line voltage. Remote indicates that a separate driver or transformer needs to be purchased and installed at the line voltage connection. A fixture safe voltage connection coming from the driver/transformer is then connected to the fixture.

Q: What happens if I connect line voltage to a remote or low voltage fixture?
A: It’ll blow up!… (And void the warranty)

Q: What’s the difference between “Line Voltage” and “Line Voltage Via Transformer?”
A: Line voltage means the fixture is equipped to accept line voltage connections directly to the fixture (just be cautious of what specific line voltage it can accept, 120V or 277V). Line Voltage Via Transformer is similar, but refers to our low voltage fixtures that come with the necessary transformer to also accept line voltage.

NOTE: Never connect a Low Voltage Driver or Line Voltage Via Transformer fixture directly to a line voltage connection without a transformer in between to reduce the voltage down to 12V.

NEW WEBSITE TRANSITION

Q: Why did B-K Lighting launch a new website?
A: In response to feedback requesting for an improvement website experience. The new site was designed to improve navigation, streamline the product offering, and align with industry standards. It features an updated design, simplified product structure, and powerful filtering tools. Equally as important, it’s built on a new and modern platform that will allow the B-K team to update product information quickly and easily.

Q: What happened to the old website?
A: The old site is accessible for the time being via https://old.bklighting.com. You can also find this link to the old website in the website footer below.

Q: How long will the old website be available for?
A: To put it simply, as long as it needs to be in order to ensure all of our users are no longer dependent on the information/content on the old website. We will share any plans and dates to retire the old website as soon as it’s known.

Q: Can I still use the old product logic and information from the old website?
A: For the time being, yes. However, we encourage you to start using the new website as much as possible as it now contains the most accurate and up-to-date information and will be the permanent direction moving forward.

NAVIGATION AND SITE FEATURES

Q: Where can I find my favorite products like the Delta Star?
A: Many product series have been renamed or combined to simplify our product offering. A vast majority of the offerings you’re used to getting from B-K are still available, they’re just found under a new name. We have various tools to help you navigate these changes. One specific tool that will be of assistance is our Product Conversion Matrix, found on our Resources page.

Q: Why doesn’t the search bar recognize catalog numbers or logic codes?
A: Catalog logic search is coming soon! In the meantime, please use filters or browse by category.

Q: How do I register for an account?
A: Accounts are exclusive to our B-K Lighting manufacturer representatives. B-K reps can register for an account here.

Q: How do I submit feedback?
A: Click the blue “Send Feedback” button in the bottom-right corner of the website. Follow the prompts to submit feedback through our Bugherd tool. If you don’t see the blue button, try using a different browser, or check your current browser’s blocker.

PRODUCT LOGIC STRUCTURE

Q: What is “Product Logic” and why does it look different?
A: As a part of the new website project, we took the opportunity to analyze our entire product offering and rework it in order to create structure and consistency across our products. Doing so required an overhaul of our product logic. Product logic is now divided into Family/Product and Variant levels for greater clarity.

Q: What does the new logic structure improve?
A: It ensures product consistency, simplifies quoting, and improves accuracy during configuration and ordering. While the logic is technically longer, much of the logic building is done automatically through navigation and allowed for us to adopt a product configurator.

DISCONTINUED ITEMS

Q: I can’t find a product I used to specify. Is it gone?
A: Some products and options have been discontinued or merged into newer offerings. These may be listed under the new “Discontinued” section.

Examples of discontinued items include:

Series Discontinued

  • Lassen
  • Baxter/Series 4000 (contract for availability)

Product(s) & Option(s) Discontinued

  • Micro Nite with MR11
  • UPM Dual Junction Box
  • Monument Mount for Power Pipes and Pipes

Q: What happened to the Adjust-e-Lume?
A: The Adjust-e-Lume is still physically present on the same products as it was before. However, we removed the ability to request a preset out level from the logic as over 95% of the orders received simply specified the default output.
